Byers wore this sweater for the Moncton Golden Flames at the Moncton Coliseum during the 1986/87 AHL season.
Battle marks showing on front body and front hem highlighted by a huge hack mark to right of logo. Blood staining showing just below 'V' portion of front neck and on right sleeve just above the cuff. For not having played too many games with Moncton in 86/87, both sleeves show decent stick/puck marks and both cuffs show good general wear and game grime. Heavy puckering showing on logo and back/sleeve numbers leaving the classic satiny finish multiple wearings and washings should show. A series of puck marks showing to left of 'B' in nameplate extend down in to the body of the jersey indicating the nameplate is original to the sweater.
Custom fight strap sewn in with box-cross pattern of white team stitching, strap is an interesting design consisting of a thin gauze-like cloth material with 3 stainless snaps - strap has been shortened by being tied in a ball at the base, then hockey tape wrapped around it.
Champion L/G tag sewn in neck with sub-care tag sewn underneath; Embroidered Champion patch sewn on back right hem. Far right side of patch has been torn away from jersey and remains un-repaired.
Portions on the top of both back numbers have been repaired with gold team stitching; bottom right hand side of number '0' on right sleeve torn away from jersey and repaired with red team stitching.
Very interesting example from Champion. Moncton used CCM knits in 1984/85 and 1985/86 (during which, Byers was on the Flames and wore #11 with the AHL 50 year patch) and switched to Champion for their final season of 1986/87. The following season of 1987/88, the team changed to the Moncton Hawks so the Flames did not strip these jerseys for re-usage/re-cycling, leaving this example in the sane condition last it was worn at The Coliseum.
Byers fought twice in this jersey with both bouts coming on Dec 19th 1986 verse the visiting Springfield Indians - this game saw Byers fight AHL hooligans Colin Chisholm and Jim Archibald while wearing this jersey.
